Strong and Stable structures

There are structures all around us.

The table and chair are structures.
The car you are driven in is a structure.
The building that you live in is a structure.

Structures are not just things made by people. You can find structures in nature as well.

The tree is a structure.
The beehive is a structure.
The bird’s next is a structure.

Structures can be man-made or natural. Structures are important for people and animals and so they must be strong and stable.

The Tower of Pisa, a bell tower in France, is known for it nearly four-degree lean because of an unstable foundation.

Discussion questions: Can structures with different shapes have the same strength and stability? Study the materials used to build these structures. How did the material used contribute to its strength and stability? Does the structure help meet its needs?
